hopeeeeefully this satisfies what folks are looking for! warning for rape/non-con as per the prompt - the actual scene isn't included, but it's implied/discussed
-------
Their covers are solid.
Cassian keeps telling himself this. Their best bet is to stay calm, stay in character, and wait. As far as these Imps have any reason to know, they're just a transport crew. Perhaps the type that might occasionally operate somewhat outside the law, but on the whole unremarkable and unimportant, and Cassian knows they don't have any actual reason to hold them.
We've been in worse cages than this, Cassian can imagine Chirrut saying; and indeed Chirrut looks as unconcerned as usual, sitting against the wall of the holding room, Baze standing over him.
"They have no cause to hold us," he says out loud.
"They had no good cause to arrest us either, and here we are," Jyn points out. Cassian ignores her-she's not really contesting his statement, just voicing her frustration.
Bodhi shrugs. "They don't need one," he says, "but it's more trouble than it's worth for them to keep us here long."
Bodhi is taking this more calmly than Cassian might've expected. He's nervous and jittery, but he often is, and Cassian has learned not to assume that just because Bodhi is wide-eyed and fidgety he isn't capable of handling himself in tense and dangerous situations. Still, Cassian wouldn't blame Bodhi for being rattled by the attention of the Imperial officers who had brought them in. They'd taken interest in Bodhi in particular, making crude remarks and handling him in a different manner from the rough detachment the rest of them had been treated with. All of them had noticed: Chirrut and Baze's stances angry and defensive, Jyn looking ready to rip an Imp's throat out with her teeth. But the knowledge that their fastest way out of here was keep their heads down and not make trouble had held Cassian back from protesting, and Bodhi had born the treatment with a set jaw and no acknowledgement of the officers' actions.
So now they waited.
*
After what Cassian estimates to be just under two standard hours, they're all restless. When an Imperial officer flanked by two troopers enters the room, they're all standing, hopeful but wary.
"Most of your credentials have cleared," the officer informs them.
Most of them. Which means not all of them, which can't mean anything good.
The officer continues. "We just need to have a conversation with Mr. Ori to straighten out a few details."
Makostanis Ori is Bodhi's alias, and Cassian does not like the sound of this. From the body language and expressions he can see and sense around him, neither does the rest of the team.
"What details?" Baze asks, just a hint of a challenge in his low voice.
"Simply a formality," the officer replies blandly. "We just have to clarify some of our records before we can allow you to leave."
Or else you won't be allowed to leave is the underlying threat that Cassian hears.
"Alright," Bodhi says, stepping forward before Cassian can decide how to handle this situation.
The officer smiles, and waves one of the trooper forward to cuff Bodhi's wrists in front of them. Cassian's stomach is knotted, and he wonders for a moment if Bodhi realizes the risks here.
"Mako," Jyn hisses at Bodhi, her concern evident.
But Bodhi meets her eyes and shrugs, then lifts his chin as he's led out of the room.
"Kriffing hell," Jyn curses vehemently, once the door is closed and locked again. "Does he have any idea-"
"He does," Chirrut interjects.
Jyn looks at Cassian, challenging him. "Are we letting this happen?" she demands.
Cassian doesn't reply immediately. Of course he doesn't want to let this happen. Especially not to Bodhi, who is kind, who has already suffered more than he ever should have. Cassian is relatively certain that he could get them out of this holding room, and he wants to, wants to break them out and find Bodhi before anything happens. But if they did that, both their cover and the mission would be blown to pieces, and Cassian is confident he could escape this room but less confident that he could get all of them out of the complex safely.
It's not an option.
"We have no choice," he tells them, clipped tone covering up his unhappiness.
Jyn glares, and Cassian thinks she's going to fight him on this. But she doesn't, leaving Cassian to assume she came to the same conclusions he did, and perhaps also that she saw how he felt about the decision and decided not to push. Instead, she sits down again, Chirrut settling next to her.
"He'll be alright," Cassian hears him reassure Jyn quietly.
*
When the door opens again, Bodhi isn't there. Instead, two troopers wave them out into the passageway, and inform them that they're being released.
"And our crew member?" Cassian demands.
"Not my job," the trooper responds. "Move along."
Jyn catches Cassian's eye again, and this time he inclines his head a fraction. No karking way they're leaving without Bodhi. Nonetheless, Cassian still doesn't like their odds of trying to fight their way out of here.
It doesn't come to that. When the passage opens up into the room where they were processed on intake, Bodhi is there. He looks equally relieved to see them as Cassian is sure they, but he's whole and standing and that will have to be enough for now.
An officer, not the one that took Bodhi from the room, but the other one who had arrested them, addresses Cassian. "Everything seems to check out. Thank you for your cooperation."
Anger surges up in Cassian, but he doesn't let it show. Instead he nods in acknowledgement and leads his crew out the opened door.
*
They're quiet as they make their way back to the ship, ever cautious of who might be listening, but Jyn squeezes Bodhi's shoulder gently, and Baze walks close to him, keeping the crowd of the busy streets away from him. Cassian tails behind the other four, watching for trouble, cautious of being followed despite his doubt that they are.
Their shuttle is where they left it, the rented bay where they had been detained. It's some comfort that the Imps hadn't decided to impound the ship, and they don't have to concern themselves with getting that back into their hands. Not to mention K2, who had managed to escape detection and (hopefully) lie low while they were in custody. Explaining to Imperials why a crew of cargo haulers was in possession of an Imperial security droid would certainly have complicated things. Thankfully, Kay has not yet decided to go on an ill-advised solo rescue mission.
"About time," the droid comments as the five of them hurry up the ramp. "I was nearly ready to leave without you."
Cassian snorts, because it's a blatant lie. "Well, we're leaving now," he says. "Kay and I can manage the takeoff," he tells Bodhi, who shrugs, and Cassian heads for the cockpit.
*
Once they've cleared atmo, Cassian leaves the controls to Kay, heading back towards the ship's cargo bay-come-common space. Jyn, Baze, and Chirrut are all seated, and a moment later Bodhi emerges from the ship's 'fresher.
"What?" Bodhi says, stopping, as all four of them unintentionally look up at him at once.
The confusion on the pilot's face makes Baze chuckle quietly, and some of the tension breaks. Bodhi enters the room and settles next to Jyn on one the storage containers they're using as seating. He misses the worried sideways look that Jyn shoots at him.
"Bodhi," Chirrut says. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Bodhi says. He doesn't elaborate further, and no one else says anything. Finally he glances around at them, still looking as though he doesn't quite understand what's bothering them. "Really, guys, I'm not hurt. It's no big deal."
"Fucking hell, Bodhi!" Jyn exclaims, then apologizes. "Sorry, Bodhi, just-'not a big deal'?"
"Bodhi," Cassian addresses him, "I don't know what exactly happened-you don't have to tell me-but I'm sorry I couldn't stop it. That was... not something you should've had to do."
Bodhi looks up at him earnestly. "I've been fucked by guys before Cassian, it's really fine. You don't have to apologize or anything."
"You were coerced into this," says Jyn, "that's not-" she breaks off.
"Obviously I didn't want it," Bodhi says, sounding a little exasperated almost, "but it's really not the worst thing that's happened to me, and it got us out of there, so overall that's pretty good."
Jyn's clearly not sure what to say to that, and Baze looks somewhat pained. Cassian becomes aware that he's frowning deeply. He hadn't exactly assumed Bodhi was naive or innocent, but hearing that worse has happened before doesn't make him feel much better about the whole thing.
"We're relieved you are unharmed," Chirrut answers for all of them. "But what they did to you, and what has been done in the past, is something that no one deserves."
Bodhi sighs. "I know," he says. "But they weren't going to let us go otherwise. You've all made sacrifices-Cassian you at least must understand. You would've done the same."
It's true, but it's not exactly the point. "You didn't do anything wrong, Bodhi, we're not saying that," Cassian says, hoping that that isn't what their pilot is taking from this conversation.
"We understand," Baze says, finally chiming in. "But you are more valuable to us, Bodhi, than something to be traded."
"When any of us is hurt, we worry," Chirrut points out. "We want to be able to help you, however you may need."
Cassian and Jyn both nod their agreement, and to Cassian's relief, Bodhi nods in response.
"Thank you," he says quietly, after thinking for a moment. "I'd do it again if I had to but. It's good, that people care."
Cassian watches Jyn drape her arm over Bodhi's shoulders, observing how she moves slowly and waits to see check Bodhi's response before she does it. He's appreciates the tactile affection, though, something Cassian has noticed before, and leans into her. Chirrut nods, and Cassian relaxes a little. Bodhi will be okay. He has a team, friends that will look after him, and for now that is enough.
